Android Development vs iOS – in your opinion should you learn both?
Nice video!!!
@Rebeloper – Rebel Developer: Hi I'm a telecom developer, mostly I was working with C, C++ on embedded systems for last 8 years. I want to switch my boring work to Application development. And I'm very confused which side I should choose. For me complexity and learning more is not problem, I just don't want to get lost. Even sometime I think should I choose Windows or Web service… Could you please advise.
The answer is simple. Yes, we have to learn both if we want to develop top projects.
How many times can your app be rejected by App Store testers before finally accepted?
Nice video. Great content thougt.
I only disagree when you make this bridge between bad apps and good apps based ONLY on the cost of the license. I develope hybrid apps and im always downloading new apps, both Android and IOS, to learn and get inspired about UI, UX and features. Both platforms has lots of shitty apps and great apps.
Really helpful overview for beginners like me. Thank you. I would bet that you would get more views if you changed the title to something like "mobile app development basics" or "choosing a mobile app development platform". I don't know though. This video was well done and helpful. Thank you again!
<3 Brilliant!
Very informative and straight to the point, i really like it. Thank you.
Although you do have to have Xcode installed to work on an iOS app, you certainly don't have to use it to write code. I've switched to AppCode years ago and my programming experience increased a lot. AppCode is missing some things, like Storyboard view and SwiftUI previews, but just for writing/refactoring code it's years ahead of Xcode comfort-wise. Usually, I end up running Xcode and AppCode together and just switch between them.
Also, I have an experience of working on the same native app for Android and iOS. When using Kotlin for Android, switching between Kotlin and Swift was very easy.
as a hobby developer $99 per year for ios is too much, $99 once of payment would be fine, my apps will likely not end up in the app store but what i create i would like to use just for myself but they stop working on my iphone after a week or so. With android i can build the app and use it on my phone without it expiring. I'm an edge case i suppose.
Thank you for your nice video. I'm not debate here which platform is better, but my opinion is(from my past experience), without promoting to a new app, app store is better than play store. For the review system, apple has more quality of app than play store. But the cons is that information reporting is not real time than Google
You can use Kotlin for Android. Now, Google encourages using Kotlin and Kotlin is kind of similar to Swift in terms of syntax.
Great video!
Thank you Alex for this video! Android Development vs. iOS? I think definitely iOS 🙂
I think one should concentrate on one ios or android but both a big no
Nobody's using Swift where I reside, it's all Obj-C, it stinks! I'm learning React Native as there are tons of jobs for React devs everywhere! Flutter is cool, but there are little to zero jobs and nobody but Google uses Dart. Javascript dominates the world! So you can make a killing doing web and mobile.
Surprised no one has mentioned Flutter or React. I’m primarily iOS but if my client wants it on iOS and Android I would definitely use Flutter. Created a few personal apps in SwiftUI, if your comfortable with Swift, building the UI with SwiftUI is a breeze. State management in SwiftUI is also very easy to pick up. Thanks Alex, great content as usual…👍
iOS is the future!
Good analysis. I started with doing both but now am 100% IOS. But it is sad XCode is still buggy.
Use Kotlin not Java for Android. While definitely different it has many similarities to Swift and gives similar advantages over Java as Swift gives over objective C
For android developing you should know Java, you can't start with Kotlin, good news that after Java it is really very easy and enjoyable to learn Kotlin or Swift. I chose iOS developing and it is looks like more simpler and fun than what i had in my Android experience.
Hey. Thanks for the information. I really want to know the present scenario of iOS Developers. I heard that iOS Developers are in huge demand right now and the demand-to-supply ratio is very high. Is that true?
Definitely iOS, but I decided to go for both since the android dev fee is only 25bucks. thank you for sharing , nice content as always!
Android Studio is available on Windows, macOS and also on Linux. You can develop Android apps wherever you want. Also, you can use Kotlin for Android, which is officially supported by Google for 2 years or so. You can use both Java and Kotlin in one project, since they are interoperable. This can help you get used to the new language, Kotlin, much easier. For example, you can keep your old code base in Java and write new components with Kotlin.
